Material & Application Notes
When integrated into fresh concrete slabs, SpecPlate NOX creates a surface highly resistant to abrasion, impact, and point loading, making it ideal for areas prone to frequent moisture and water exposure. Provides a non-rusting, high-strength wearing surface suitable for areas with frequent moisture and water exposure. Offers a high-density surface that resists liquid penetration and is easy to maintain and clean.
Why Contractors Choose It
Contractors choose SpecPlate NOX to improve release, reduce cleanup, protect formwork, and keep concrete placement moving.
Follow the American Concrete Institute Standard 302 for general floor and slab construction guidelines.
Aim to perform all work under a roof whenever possible. Environmental conditions that affect drying and setting times will also impact the timing of hardener application.
Proper concrete mix design must be reviewed and approved by SpecChem before placement.
Prepare the area by calculating the required number of bags based on the coverage rate, and ensure the concrete is placed to the finish grade level and compacted with a wooden bull float.
Special Conditions:
Apply SpecFilm to the surface immediately after bull floating in conditions that promote rapid surface drying, such as low humidity, wind, or sunlight.
Placing the Hardener:
The application should consider the concrete slump, job site conditions affecting drying, and the necessary coverage. Begin application at the perimeter as it sets quicker than the interior.
Use a dry-shake method after concrete bleeding. Apply two-thirds of the hardener initially, allow it to absorb moisture, then float. Follow immediately with the remaining one-third and complete the machine float after the slab stiffens.
Curing:
Apply an approved SpecChem ASTM C-309 compliant curing compound post-final troweling to ensure optimal curing.
Packaging
Available in 50-pound triple-lined bags.
Shelf Life
12 months for unopened bags stored in a dry facility. High humidity and temperature differentials can reduce shelf life. Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight.
Coverage
1.5 to 2.5 pounds per square foot.
Test Data
Compressive Strength (ASTM C 109): 9,750 psi at 7 days, 12,500 psi at 28 days.
Standards
Compliant with U.S.D.A. for use in facilities where incidental contact with food products is possible.
